Meet the team

Hartford Men in Sheds community proudly affirms their historic claim as the original of the many Men in Sheds projects established in the UK. As the longest running shed in the country, the Hartford shed, established in 2008, has grown and adapted over the years to best accommodate the needs and requirements of its many volunteers and attendees.

Individuals from all walks of life are welcomed into a caring, vibrant atmosphere. Experienced volunteers and delegates welcome new attendees into an open and honest environment. Skills, ideas and anecdotes are shared, ingenuity and creativity are encouraged, and jokes, tea and biscuits are a staple of this strong, thriving community.

Prospective attendees are welcome to drop in any time during opening hours and experience the shed community, get a feel for the place, and learn more about the workshop and the environment with no obligation to join.

Hartford shed is also accessible for the benefit of the wider community. All are welcome to get in touch or simply drop into the shed during working hours and chat about projects for renovation, repairs and commissioning new items for the home, garden or office.

Hartford shed enjoys a great working relationship locally with Hartford Parish Council and local charities such as The Joshua Tree, The Round Table and the Freemasons. The Round Table recently commissioned the Hartford Shed to refurbish their infamous Santa’s sleigh before this year’s annual Christmas run and the Freemasons very kindly donated funds for new air filtration units in the workshop, keeping us up to date with health and safety requirements. Hartford Parish Council keeps us appraised of craft fairs and fetes where we can display our products for fundraising and ensure awareness of the project in the local community. We also like to work with schools and all types of educational bodies as we value age integration and the capacity for well-being that education and charitable endeavour has on all parties involved. The sheds community also integrates with hospitals, care homes and care service providers in the community such as Archangel Enterprises.
